International Conference on Electric Airships – Decarbonizing Aviation (27. – 30. September 2023)

Explore the future of aviation, delving into the potential of flexible thin-film solar cells, advanced power electronics, and lightweight batteries. These innovations are driving the creation of a new era of airships, including drones, high-altitude vehicles, and cargo/passenger carriers. Discover the exciting role airships can play in shaping a sustainable future. FAU is organizing the Conference on Electric Airships for Decarbonizing Aviation at the Energie Campus Nürnberg from September 27th-30th. Our FAU Solar Members Christoph Pflaum, Christoph Brabec, and Martin März play integral roles as speakers and within the Conference Committee. Registration open until September 1st.

Researchers from FAU collaborating with and the Technical University of Munich have calculated the necessary specifications for newly designed solar-powered airships to be environmentally friendly. They have even factored in optimal flight routes into their calculations.

With the development of ultra-lightweight solar cells, new lightweight construction methods, and highly efficient batteries, a completely new generation of airships is emerging, enabling eco-friendly transportation. The conference will showcase the latest global advancements in this field and discuss their applications.
