Towards understanding the competition of electron and energy transfer in “molecular” nanographenes on the example of hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene
Beneventi, G. M., Krug, M., Reger, D., Jux, N., Guldi, D. M., Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology C: Photochemistry Reviews 2023, 56, 100602. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jphotochemrev.2023.100602 Bottom-up strategies have allowed the synthesis of “molecular” nanographenes with full control over size, shape and functionality. In recent years, the progress on wet chemical approaches, oxidative cyclodehydrogenation amongst all, has […]Beneventi, G. M., Krug, M., Reger, D., Jux, N., Guldi, D. How Charge Carrier Exchange between Absorber and Contact Influences Time Constants in the Frequency Domain Response of Perovskite Solar Cells
Ravishankar, S., Liu, Z., Wang, Y., Kirchartz, T., Rau, U. PRX Energy 2, 033006 – Published 2 August 2023 A model is derived for the frequency and time domain optoelectronic response of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) that emphasizes the role of charge carrier exchange, i.e., extraction and injection, from (to) the perovskite through the transport […]

Sustainability covering the entire life cycle of photovoltaics
Organic electronics can make a decisive contribution to decarbonization and at the same time help save rare and valuable raw materials. To achieve this, it is necessary not only to develop the manufacturing processes, but also to plan technical solutions for recycling in the laboratory. Materials scientists at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), together with British […]Organic electronics can make a decisive contribution to decarbonization and at the same time help save rare and valuable raw materials. Characterizing the Influence of Charge Extraction Layers on the Performance of Triple-Cation Perovskite Solar Cells
Siekmann, J., Kulkarni, A., Akel, S., Klingebiel, B., Saliba, M., Rau, U., Kirchartz, T. Adv. Energy Mater. 2023, 13(32), 2300448 Selecting suitable charge transport layers and suppressing non-radiative recombination at interfaces with the absorber layer is vital for maximizing the efficiency of halide perovskite solar cells. In this study, high-quality perovskite thin films and devices […]

Transforming characterization data into information in the case of perovskite solar cells
Kirchartz, T., Das, B. J. Phys. Energy 2023, 5 031001 In many emerging solar cell technologies, it is a significant challenge to extract the electronic properties of materials and interfaces inside a working device from experimental data. In many cases, approaches frequently used in mature technologies such as crystalline silicon are inapplicable as they require […]
