Welcome to Erlangen: Humboldt Research Award for Prof. Sang Il Seok

Prof. Sang Il Seok is one of the world’s leading pioneers in perovskite solar cell research, setting global standards in efficiency and materials engineering.

Nominated by Prof. Christoph J. Brabec, spokesperson of FAU Solar, Prof. Seok was granted the prestigious Humboldt Research Award in March 2025 and is now officially honored by the President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Prof. Seok has been a driving force in the development of perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology. He transformed the concept of sensitized solar cells into a fully solid-state technology, pioneering hybrid perovskite heterojunction devices. His innovations—such as solvent engineering for the preparation of high-quality perovskite films—set global standards that are now widely adopted in laboratories and industry.

Recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher and recipient of the Rank Prize for Optoelectronics (2022), Prof. Seok holds several world-record efficiencies in PSCs and is among the most-cited scientists in the field. His visionary work continues to advance PSCs as a next-generation technology for sustainable solar energy.

We are excited to have Prof. Seok in Erlangen and look forward to an inspiring scientific exchange!
